about SBAC Scotland

Following consultation with the Scottish aerospace industry and key stakeholders, SBAC established an operation in 2005 to support sector competitiveness and provide a targeted programme of services for members in Scotland. Scotland has been at the heart of the aerospace industry since its very beginnings and is currently attracting major international investments on the basis of its skilled workforce, global links, strong and diverse local supplier base and excellent research teams.

The Scottish Aerospace Strategy, launched in March 2003 by Scottish Enterprise, aims to create or safeguard approximately 4,500 jobs over three years. The aerospace and defence industries in Scotland employee more than 30,000 people in around 140 local companies. It is a key part of the UK industry with a mix of both civil and defence activities undertaken by prime contractors and SMEs. SBAC Scotland will work with the industry base, the Centre of Excellence, Scottish Enterprise and other stakeholders to develop a range of services and programmes geared to business development, industrial transformation and raising the visibility of Scottish aerospace capability on a global scale.

SBAC Scotland aims to provide a range of services and offer best value to Scottish companies through, in particular:

  • support to global promotions
  • market information and intelligence
  • establishing fruitful communications channels with government
  • delivering industrial transformation programmes
  • providing access to decision makers in primes and first/second tier suppliers services and benefits
  • logistical support through the provision of office facilities, accommodation

SBAC Scotland Annual Survey 2008

SBAC Scotland has from its inception worked hard to convince the Scottish Government, Westminster Government, the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments and key stakeholders that the Scottish aerospace, defence and naval sector is strong, significant and growing. The best and most convincing proof we have of this truth is the annual survey of the sector without which we would find ourselves in a significantly weaker position. The importance of the survey is that it reflects a true and fair assessment of the current state of the sector in Scotland and consequently it is important that all companies take the time to complete and return the survey form
