SC21 objectives
To agree a common industry standard for measuring quality performance and promote common tools and techniques for improvement.
Measures of quality performance
Measures develop so far for quality performance are based on manufacturers with further work to be done in services organisations. The measures are based on variation from low volume, high variety to high volume, standard product manufacturers.

Quality performance is calculated as follows:
In exceptional circumstances, to accommodate low volume, high variety SC21 manufacturers or service providers, customers may agree different measures from these. In this case, the levels for recognition will be agreed following consultation with customers and the SC21 project team who will seek consistency of interpretation.
Improvement tools & techniques
The SIG is currently investigating and assessing quality tools and techniques in the areas of:
- Quality systems diagnostics,
- Root cause and corrective action.
