The new Community of Learning

The Global e-Business Working Group was started by UKCeB in collaboration with SBAC in 2006 as the UK equivalent of the AIA EEIC forum and the UKCeB focus for best practice. The original format was quarterly meetings in London which were generally of a technical nature. With the changes brought about by the Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS), industrial and MOD re-structuring, and encouragement from government for the defence sector to share knowledge it was agreed in November 2007 to refocus the working group.

In early 2008 a complete review of all UKCeB activities and Working Groups was carried out by the Defence Reference Group (DRG) and the priority activities from the Portfolio Project were endorsed for action by the Joint Information Group (JIG). As part of the review it was agreed to convert the Global e-Business Working Group to a virtual Learning from Experience Community of Practice.

This is to position UKCeB to assist the defence and aerospace sector to manage the implications of emerging technology, align with the JIG strategic imperatives and to improve our transfer of knowledge and best practice between sectors. Simply put, UKCeB and SBAC wants to bring together people and teams with good ideas to meet and learn from each other.

The Community of Learning has developed an approach based on a Radar Screen and considered activities as those that we track, become candidate activities for adoption, those adopted and those new ideas on new horizons.
