BERR: Export Control Organisation

The Government maintains export controls to prevent the export of goods and technologies contrary to its policies. If goods or technologies are subjected to UK export controls, you need a licence to give you legal authority to export them.

DESO - Defence Export Services Organisation

DESO is a UK Ministry of Defence department helping UK defence exporters succeed by:

  • Giving assistance to company-led marketing campaigns;

  • Support for Export Marketing Research:
    Trade Partners UK provides support to companies to undertake Export Marketing Research; this is managed by The British Chambers of Commerce. Hundreds of companies each year access free, professional and independent advice about researching export markets and receive financial subsidies of up to 50% towards marketing research costs.
  • Visiting the Market/Trade Missions:
    Market visits can be a private company affair in the form of a marketing research study or fact-finding mission. Alternatively many companies enjoy the benefits of joining a Trade Mission or Europartenariat event Contact your local Chamber of Commerce to discuss how they can help with your initial market research. England's Regional Development Agencies

The eight Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) set up in the English Regions are non-departmental public bodies. Their primary role, along with a ninth RDA, the London Development Agency, is as strategic drivers of regional economic development in their region. The RDAs aim to co-ordinate regional economic development and regeneration, enable the regions to improve their relative competitiveness and reduce the imbalance that exists within and between regions.

EU - market access database

The Market Access Database is an important operational tool of the European Union's Market Access Strategy, supporting a continuous three-way exchange of information between: the EU institutions, Member States and European business. The Market Access Strategy is a key pillar of the EU's Trade Policy which aims to reduce the obstacles faced by European exporters of goods and services. The Market Access Database is a free, interactive, easy to use service providing :

  • Information about Market Access conditions in non-EU countries.
  • A systematic way for the European Commission to follow up complaints from businesses about barriers to trade in non-EU countries.
  • A mean of ensuring that our trading partners are abiding by their international commitments.
  • Better input for defining the EU's trade policy objectives on further trade liberalisation in the framework of the World Trade Organisation (e.g. Doha Development Agenda) and new free trade agreements between the EU and preferential partners (e.g. EU - MERCOSUR).
